Planetary Movie Screening
November 15, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
SustainFloyd invites everyone to bring a favorite dish and enjoy a great potluck dinner with the stunning documentary, “PLANETARY,” at the Floyd Country Store on Tuesday evening, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. The film will begin at about 6:30 p.m. A discussion will follow the film, featuring Virginia Tech Associate Professor Eileen Crist whose work focuses on biodiversity and mass extinction. The evening will be sponsored by the Association of Energy Conservation Professionals (AECP).
“PLANETARY,” the official selection of the 2015 Washington DC Environmental Film Festival, is a cross continental, cinematic journey, exploring mankind’s cosmic origins and future as a species. The film’s premise is that we have forgotten that everything is connected. “PLANETARY” is a poetic and humbling reminder that it’s time to shift our perspective.
“‘PLANETARY’ takes your breath away with its sweeping cinematography, but it’s not meant to be just pretty,” says SustainFloyd President Jackie Crenshaw. “It’s thought provoking. I foresee a great discussion afterwards for those who can stick around.”
Those attending the screening do not need to be members of SustainFloyd. All are invited. A $5 donation is appreciated for viewing the film. “PLANETARY” is the second documentary screened in SustainFloyd’s popular Fall Film Series. The first movie, “My Life as a Turkey,” drew a large crowd last month.
On Tuesday evening, December 6th, SustainFloyd will show the third and final documentary of its 2016 Fall Film Series, “Even Though the Whole World is Burning.” The movie explores the life of U.S. Poet Laureate W.S. Merwin whose achievements have been marked by environmental activism and land stewardship. In 2017, the SustainFloyd Winter Film Series will bring more documentaries to the Floyd Country Store.
